I agree.  Getting a NPE doesn't seem to be a bad way to be told
that this programming error has occurred.

Skipping over the callback if it wasn't injected (or was injected
as NULL) is unlikely to be the correct thing to do.  If the service
implementation needs to invoke this callback because of business
semantics, and the callback wasn't injected, this seems like an
unrecoverable error.
