The rationale is not overwhelming, but I sensed agreement within the TC so I went with it. As I recall, JEE uses CDATA as the type for the @ejb-link-name, and since string is more flexible than URI, we went with string.

Dave,
What was the rationale for using xs:string over xs:anyURI? I know we
discussed this on one of the calls, but cannot recall the reason. IIRC,
it was a deliberate change, as your initial proposal was to use xs:anyURI.
