Folks,
"asyncInvocation" is essentially
an operation-level intent, since what it does is to make a statement about
the relative timing of the request message
and the response message of an operation. The implication is
that the response message is likely
to occur a long time after the request message is received.

Operation means WSDL operation. See lines 960-964
(cd03 pdf), POL90010,
POL90013, etc for similar usage of operation.
When we agreed to POL90030, we decided that interface operations needed
to
be the target of the statement because it is possible to attach intents
to
an operation. Since the asyncInvocation and propagatesTransaction are
incompatible, we decided that constraints at the operation level allowed
for interfaces that contained these intents on different operations.
Does that help?

On today's call Dave said the POL-TA-90033 which is based on conformance
statement POL90030 should
mention "operation". POL90030 reads "The */asyncInvocation/*
intent and
the */propagatesTransaction/* intent MUST NOT be applied to the same
service or reference operation."
I read the word "operation"in the above sentence as "message"
but
perhaps it means something different.
The predicate for POL-TA-90033 reads "<component/> <reference/>
or
<service/> marked with both /asynchInvocation/ and
/propagatesTransaction/ intents" . Should <reference/>
or <service/> be
changed to <operation/> or to
<reference/> or <service/> or <operation/>
