Subject: Re: [sca-policy] Re: Question about Exit Criteria raised on Assembly TC call

Thanks Mike for providing a straight answer.

Ashok, I'm not sure how so much confusion arose as I did mention in my previous response to the excerpt cited below that my original question was not about Fabric3 but about the SCA Policy Exit Criteria:

"Thanks Ashok but my question was a slightly different: Has the *SCA Policy TC* met the Exit Criteria? I believe it has. Let me know if that is the official understanding or, if not, why."

It could be that my wording was misleading.

In any event, Mike asserts that the Exit Criteria have been met and that is my understanding as well. As Chair of the Policy TC, do you agree?

Thanks,
Jim

I thought this answered Jim's question.  AFAIK, we did not take a formal vote on whether
the exit criteria for the spec had been met.

Folks,

The exit criteria do indeed apply to the SCA Policy specification.

I think that the required 2 conforming implementations do exist and that as a result, the exit criteria have been met.

Whether a formal vote has taken place I do not know - it would be useful to know that.

Martin,

I'm perplexed why my question is so difficult to answer. I'm also very disappointed in your response. As a chair of the Assembly TC and someone with a lot of OASIS experience, wouldn't it be better to help out with formulating the question in a more appropriate way, if that needs to be done?

I'm trying to be as clear as possible: Have the Exit Criteria as identified in the SCA Policy TC Charter (https://www.oasis-open.org/committees/sca-policy/charter.php) been met? If not, what remains to be done?

The Exit Criteria as identified in the SCA Policy TC Charter do not contain any references to the SCA Assembly or SCA Bindings TCs or the respective specifications. This implies the Exit Criteria are a discrete topic.

Can someone speak authoritatively to the above question?

Thanks,
Jim

But that’s an invalid question if the exit criteria does not apply to the TC.

So I am not sure what you are trying to get at!

Re: [sca-policy] Re: Question about Exit Criteria raised on Assembly TC call

Hi Martin,

I don't know whether the Exit Criteria apply to the TC or Specifications itself but that is orthogonal to the question I asked. By "Exit Criteria", I mean what is defined in the Policy TC Charter (https://www.oasis-open.org/committees/sca-policy/charter.php):

"Exit Criteria

The TC shall define concrete exit criteria that include at least two independent offerings that implement and are compliant with the all normative portions of specifications and demonstrate interoperability and portability as appropriate. Note that these are minimums and that the TC is free to set more stringent criteria."

So, my question is still the same:

Have all of the Exit Criteria for the Policy TC been met? What are the outstanding items that have not been completed in the Policy TC Charter?

Jim

I believe the exit criteria applies to specifications not to the TC itself.

Hi Ashok,

As chair of the TC, I think it is important you clarify the status of where we are at since there has been a fair amount of confusion. The question is:

Have all of the Exit Criteria for the Policy TC been met? What are the outstanding items that have not been completed in the Policy TC Charter?

This is independent of the status of the Assembly and Bindings TCs.

Thanks,

Jim

Sorry I'm not explaining myself very well. I'll try and re-phrase the question:

Have all of the Exit Criteria for the Policy TC been met? What are the outstanding items that have not been completed in the Policy TC Charter? This is independent of Assembly and Bindings.

Thanks,

Jim

My understanding is that Assembly, Policy and Bindings would
all meet the exit criteria, or not, together, as a bundle.

Hi Dave and Ashok,

A question raised raised on the last Assembly TC call about the status of the Policy TC Exit Criteria and there was some confusion. I think we clarified that the Fabric3 conformance claim was accepted, thereby fulfilling the requirement of two independent SCA implementations:

1. The original claim submitted March 6, 2013: https://www.oasis-open.org/apps/org/workgroup/sca-policy/email/archives/201303/msg00006.html

2. A motion was approved unanimously on April 4, 2014  : https://www.oasis-open.org/apps/org/workgroup/sca-policy/email/archives/201304/msg00006.html

So, my question is, am I correct in believing that the Policy TC Exit Criteria have been satisfied?

Thanks,

Jim
