Subject: Re: [sdd] Packaging Spec (Resend)

John,

The packaging descriptor is separate from the SDD. It allows the same logical package contents (artifacts plus SDD) to be packaged in different ways for efficiency, by mapping logical file names to their physical file location. For example, files can be renamed; common content can be shared across packages; one package can be located on multiple media; files can be contained in ZIPs.

The packaging descriptor should only be needed if there isn't a direct mapping of the logical content onto the physical media.

The packaging descriptor should reside in a defined location on the physical media (e.g. /META-INF).

Regards,
Christine

[sdd] Packaging Spec (Resend)

Resending this without my signature...

Howdy,

I'm a touch confused about the idea of a packaging descriptor. Is this descriptor part of any particular aspect of the SDD? If so, what part does it apply to? If not, where is the packaging descriptor supposed to reside?

Thanks,
