Subject: RE: [sdd] Groups - Some suggested changes for SDD (Sdd-SuggestedChanges.ppt) uploaded

Randy,

We have a packageID and a releaseID to identity a "package".  The descriptorID & lastModifiedDate tuple currently does not address the need to have a simple human-readable ID to identify the package.

Thanks,

John

John,
From our conversations, you currently have am ID that identifies the package.  This allows you to provide a better package management system.  In the case where the SDD uses a combination of descriptorID & lastModifiedDate, you wanted a single ID, rather than a tuple, that you could use to identify the package.  Is that correct?

Re: [sdd] Groups - Some suggested changes for SDD (Sdd-SuggestedChanges.ppt) uploaded

John,

Could you clarify a few things about your proposal?

1) What is the purpose of the ID attribute you want to add? How is that different than descriptorID and softwareID?

>> The purpose is to give an ID to PackageIdentity to make it compatible to other types.  The descriptorID has UUID type so it does not match the existing packages we have.  The softwareID can be used as an "ID" for the packageIdentity.  If that is the case, softwareID might be changed as "ID" or "packageID".

2) Why do you believe these classifications need to be in the SDD and not just added using the extension point in PackageIdentity (xsd:any)?

>> The content Category and Type can be classified and predefined either through schema or Profile.  Using xsd:any might allow any extension.

3) It seems like your suggestion for adding instructions to artifacts is a subset of Debra's Human-readable Extensions proposal. Do you think so?

>> Debra's Human-readable Extensions proposal covers a broad spectrum.  Adding instructions to artifacts can be discussed under the Human-readable Extensions context but Debra's proposal does not go into the specific of adding instructions element.

>> The items mentioned here came from comparing our existing update packages format with the SDD schema.  What is proposed is an attempt to bridge the existing gaps.
