Scan operation

Dear colleagues,

I will be posting a series of questions or comments as I review the 
draft document.
This is the first in the series.

I am unclear on what the scan operation is all about. Could someone 
please provide a illustrative use case / example.

In general I suggest including a simple and obvious use case description 
for each spec feature to clarify the purpose of the feature. The same 
use case could then be used as an illustrative example.
