(** Apologise for cross posting **)

Announcing the release of the Web Services Modeling Toolkit (WSMT) v1.2.

We have been really busy since last December working hard on new plugins
and features for the WSMT. All the information related to the WSMT can
be found on http://wsmt.sourceforge.net, where you can download the
latest release, check screenshots and record bugs and feature requests
you may have. The team welcomes any feedback you may have either via
the wsmt site or via email. Also a PDF containing a full description of
the features of WSMT is available from :
http://wiki.wsmx.org/index.php?title=Developer_Tools

Note 1: This release of the WSMT comes in two flavors. The first is the
GPL flavor that contains all of the tools, the second is the LGPL
version that is shipped mins the plug-ins that have the GPL license.
This allows for commercial users to use our application!

Note 2: The WSMT requires Java 5.0 installed as the default JRE on your
system.

Note 3: Linux users should download the bundle of plugins and deploy
them into a new or existing eclipse instance.

General Changes
---------------

In this release the major aim was to improve the usability of the WSMT.
Towards this aim we have drastically improved the communication between
the different views and editors in the WSMT as well as creating better
links with the validation support built in the last release.

One of the major features is the "clean build" feature that has been
added to WSMO4J and allows for the in memory model that the WSMT
maintains to be cleaned out. Thus no more restarting the WSMT when using
the text editor and visualizer together.

All tools in the WSMT now support multiple top level entities in a
single file. This allows engineers of web service descriptions to build
and manage ontology fragments along side goals or to build 3 or 4
ontologies within the same WSML file.

Finally this release has also focused on configurability for all editors
and views. Thus many more options are available in the preferences that
allow the user to use the tools in the way they want.

Plug-ins
--------

There are so many new plug-ins available in the new WSMT. Rather than
try and provide an overview of the changes since the last release, below
is a list of each available tool and its major features.

** WSML Text Editor **

This new plugin presents a text editor with many added value features
for users who wish to be hands on with the WSML syntax, while still
being hooked into features like the WSML reasoner. Its major features
include:
	- Syntax Highlighting
	- Syntax Completion (for keywordS)
	- Error Notification
	- Content Folding
	- Bracket Highlighting
	- Commenting
	- Integration with WSML Reasoner

** WSML Visualizer **

The WSML Visualizer has received a minor makeover since the last
release. New features allow the visualizer to work with larger
ontologies containing many instances, also many of the existign features
have been streamlined and there performance improved. The main features
include:
	- Manipulation of the graph representation
	- Spring Layout algorithm
	- Node Filtering (via the legend)
	- Semantic Levels
	- Semantic Highlighting
	- Instance Clustering (using cluster map technology)
	- Full editing support in the visualization

** WSML Reasoner View ** (GPL VERSION ONLY)

The WSML Reasoner View provides a fantastic way for the ontology
engineer to instantly check the consistency and results of his ontology.
The reasoner view can be used with the mins and kaon reasoners for WSML
and is fully integrated with the WSML Text Editor and WSML Visualizer.
For example the user can browse the results of a given query over the
ontology and see the selected entity selected in the selected editor.
The reasoner view provides the following features:
	- Syntax Highlighting for queries
	- Bracket matching
	- Syntax Completion for queries
	- Constraint violation checking

** AML Text Editor **

The Abstract Mapping Language (AML) developed at
http://www.sourceforge.net/projects/mediation provides a language
neutral mechanism for specifying mappings between different "things". In
WSMT we have used this language in the past for describing ontology to
ontology mappings between WSML ontologies. Now in WSMT 1.2 we provide a
full text editor for the AML with features including:
	- Syntax Highlighting
	- Syntax Completion (for keywords)
	- Error Notification
	- Content Folding
	- Bracket Highlighting
	- Commenting

** WSMX Data Mediation Mapping Tool **

The WSMX Data Mediation Mapping Tool provides a view based approach for
creating mappings in the abstract mapping language. These mappings can
then be used by the WSMX Data Mediation runtime to perform instance
transformation between the incoming ontology used by the user and the
outgoing ontology used by the service provider.

** WSDL Invocation Tool ** (GPL VERSION ONLY)

The WSDL Invocation tool is a new tool released in WSMT 1.2 and allows
web service developers to enter the address of their WSDL document and
invoke the service via the view. The view provides the SOAP envelope and
all the user has to do is fill in the value of the variables.

** WSMX Management Tool **

The WSMX Management Tool has not changed much since the last release but
still offers support for managing the WSMX environment using the RMI
interfaces of WSMX and managing the WSMX Adapter Framework via its web
service interfaces.

Any and all questions welcome,

Regards,

~Mick
