PLEASE DO NOT REPLY TO THIS EMAIL OR START A DISCUSSION THREAD UNTIL
THE ISSUE IS ASSIGNED A NUMBER. The issues coordinators will notify the list when that has occurred. Protocol: bqos sla Artifact: spec Type: design Title: Zulu Time should be UTC and Needs Reference Description: This issue applies to BusinessQualityOfService-v1.0-spec-wd04.pdf BusinessServiceLevelAgreement-v1.0-spec-wd04.pdf See BQOS lines 250, 301, and BLSA lines 495, 501, 527, 530. See also e.g. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coordinated_Universal_Time "...all use UTC (also colloquially referred to as "Zulu Time") to avoid confusion about time zones and daylight saving time" and http://hurricanes.noaa.gov/zulu-utc.html "NOAA satellites use Zulu Time or Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) as their time reference. The satellite images that appear on NOAA's Web sites are stamped in Zulu time." The proper non-colloquial usage is "UTC". The expression is typically done with ISO8601, explained at http://www.iso.org/iso/support/faqs/faqs_widely_used_standards/widely_used_standards_other/date_and_time_format.htm and http://www.cl.cam.ac.uk/~mgk25/iso-time.html . The usage in line 301 is consistent with ISO8601, but the colloquial terminology is not. Related issues: Proposed Resolution: Change text to indicate UTC. Provide normative reference to ISO8601.
