Subject: UML Modeling Tool Comparison
I've included an excel spread sheet containing a comparison of Enterprise Netbeans UML, MagicDraw, and IBM Eclipse UML2. To Summarize: IBM Eclipse UML2 is not a visual UML modeling tool, models are either imported through XMI or programatically created through what the project calls its modeling editor. Enterprise Netbeans UML does not support XMI and does not support several UML 2 diagrams - Communication, Composite Structure, Interaction Overview, Object, Package, and Timing Diagrams. If someone has another preferred UML 2.x tool that works for them and supports XMI and is cross platform compatible, let us know. About the problem uploading the XMI file to Kavi: In several cases where we've uploaded files to Kavi, Kavi has automatically changed the name of files to something like 06-06-00011.000.xls. You can look at power point file names, xml file names, and excel spreadsheet file names as an example. This may be due to a specific admin option that is selected when a document category is created. If someone has administration privileges to the SOA RA Kavi documents web page, can you check to see if there is an option that could cause uploaded file names to be changed to a date format? For now, we will have to download the file and rename whatever the file name is to something.xmi. For MagicDraw, rename the file to something.mdxml. The MagicDraw mdxml file is in XMI format.
