Subject: Association names on diagrams

Title: Association names on diagrams
Hi all,

The OASIS RM document does indeed use a UML diagramming notation called an "association".  An association describes a set of tuples whose values refer to typed instances.  For the purpose of reading associations, *some* people add a solid triangle that indicates the order of reading.  For example, on the attached diagram, The PlayedInYear association would express "Player PlayedInYear Year."

It should be noted that very few modelers use association names.  Instead, the most common practice is to use "association end names."  For example, the end name "year" (in the attached diagram) expresses that a Player is associated with any number of Year values.
