Thanks Ken.  Please let me know if you have any questions about the content of the SAIF CD as you review it.  As you and I discussed, time is tight on both our sides...which hopefully will be a progress-focusing driver.  In particular, the single piece that’s missing from the SAIF CD is a section detailing formal compliance metrics that a developer of a SAIF Implementation Guide (IG) would use to determine if the organization-specific SAIF IG was, in fact, a compliant instance of the SAIF CD.  In addition, if we do move forward with some sort of formal harmonization etc. with the SOA RAF, I would expect that some of the SAIF CD text would need to be rewritten to reflect that effort.  Our submission deadline for the normative Draft Standard for Trial Use in ~Nov 20th.

I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Take care,

charlie

Charlie,

Sorry not to have gotten back to you sooner.  The SOA-RAF group discussed the SAIF CD during our weekly call on Wednesday and people are very interested in the document and possible coordination.  We acknowledge that time is very tight for both groups and, time permitting, I and a number of others will try to digest as much of the SAIF CD as possible over the next few days.  We can then talk again and decide what is the most effective way to proceed.

Be back with you soon.

Ken

Ken –

As we discussed, here’s the SAIF CD document which was published this evening.  It’s my understanding that you will review the document over the next week or so and that you and I will then have another call to discuss how we might harmonize or otherwise incorporate, cross-reference, etc. each other’s work.  As I mentioned to you when we talked, this document will get enhanced a bit between now and Nov 20th when it will be submitted for normative HL7 ballot as a Draft Standard for Trial Use (an ANSI classification which I can explain to you if you don’t already know about it).  In particular, the current document will have a specific section added on formal testing procedures which can be used to determine if a given, organization-specific SAIF Implementation Guide (SAIF IG) is, in fact, compliant (note, the term if <<not>> “conformant”) with the SAIF CD.

As you are reviewing the document – which you can share with anyone you would like – please let me know if you have any questions on its content, etc.

Talk to you soon –

Take care,

charlie
