Subject: towards common understanding [was: ODP comments]

Zoran,

I am cc’ing this to the RAF list and Charlie Mead.  I suggest that once your comments are complete, we invite you to call in to one of our meetings.  Please think about what context you would give us during that call and use that as the basis for making your comments as standalone as possible.  That way you can assume a level of knowledge and we can begin to create a common context that will serve both efforts.

I expect this to be very interesting and very informative.

Ken

Thanks - a bit of relief helps :-) …

Fully understand need for consistency. My concern is that digesting ODP concepts may not be so easy and considering that my review was in part done from that angle and with the purpose of establishing synergy, i.e. not as a standalone review, the traditional 'issue' approach may not suffice. It may need to be accompanied with some explanatory text and I tried to do so in my spreadsheet, hoping to be as succinct as possible. In doing this, I really felt I needed to talk to you guys, rather than sending you the key ODP standard documents, as they are not easy bedtime reading :-)

In fact, few of us recently put together a book trying to address the lack of some accessible and up-to-date material about ODP. The details are at:

Chapter 1 there is free for download and perhaps this can be a good intro read. Note the book is focusing on presenting the ODP standard and only small part is talking about references to other approaches, frameworks etc, such as SOA.

Zoran,

I am also still in the process of doing my own careful read of the RAF and generating my own comments, so no apologies are needed.  From purely a process standpoint, I am looking for a consistent format for aggregating comments and dealing with similar comments consistently and at the same time.  I am also trying not to be over burdening to those taking the time to do a review.

I will be on travel most of next week and will likely turn my real attention to this when I get back.
