Subject: SOA Ecosystem in NCOIC and OMG
Hi Folks, It's located at http://www.omgwiki.org/architecture-ecosystem/doku.php?id=semantic_information_modeling_for_federation_rfp The context of this heads up is that NATO is either seriously considering or has already started to implement Core SOA-type Enterprise Services using a particular vendor’s technology, e.g. an ESB. There's a new NCOIC effort "Federated SOA" which meets for the first time Wednesday 7 March 2012 at 9:00 a.m. Eastern Time. It got started at last week's plenary and was just announced this morning. I'll keep y'all as informed as I can, but I have a medical test appointment that will take up the entire afternoon Wednesday. I'm also in the midst of attempting to help steer an Emergency Network here in the SF Bay Area into a default SOA since I don't think that it is especially helpful to insist on educating everyone about our particular variety of SOA, especially the existing municipal and county governments. I can best do this by helping establish public accountability that can block a particular Emergency Management software vendor that is chasing a monopoly by giving away its product. We're countering this with an ultra low-cost, open source network with a toolbox of low-no cost tools. Regardless, the point should be clear that the real world is pushing forward. (The skinny on NATO is that they are pushing for standards the only way they really can--by making it clear that there will be interoperability one way or another.)
