Subject: Possible disposition of Danny's points on mediated awareness
Hi, Before folding them into the main document, I’d like your review of where things stand now for section 4.2.1 In the attached extract, I have already taken as agreed a number of the edits we discussed explicitly today. The sidebar comments indicate where the changes are made. The one we didn’t address was the most radical, taking a scalpel through
the Awareness Mediator diagram and some of the related text. On reflection, I think Danny has it right, for a number of reasons – not least of all that it also addresses (by avoiding and deleting related wording!) the issue about whether only a consumer can discover a service, rather than also the
other way around. Evidence would seem to point, increasingly, to mediators also providing services with consumer “descriptions”: we are not at the point – yet – of a consumer exposing an API (although most cell phones come very close) or providing a standardized
description of “consuming capability” but we are not as far away as one might think (look up Vendor Relationship Management, Personal Data APIs, API economy, etc.). Please take a look at the attached reworking – for which I have kept the changes tracked. If there is no pushback or alternative wording, I’ll include this in the latest Gold copy which I will distribute at the end of the week as agreed. Best regards, Peter
