Service Oriented
Architecture
Harmonization
Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) is
a promising service delivery vehicle that the Enterprise Architecture
(EA) community is seeking to strengthen and broaden as a tool for
business transformation.
However, there are a number of challenges that must be explored
within the EA community to achieve common understanding among SOA
practitioners regarding how to collaborate.
Challenges include:
ü
Lack of a clear, universally accepted definition as
to what constitutes a Service Oriented Architecture,
ü
Lack of best practice examples of leveraged use of
SOA,
ü
Questions about how SOA initiatives should be
incorporated into an Enterprise Architecture Framework,
ü
What are the major problems that practitioners face
in implementing SOA initiatives,
ü
How to propagate and leverage existing SOA
services, and
ü
How an SOA service is managed and governed.
The July 13 th Architecture
Plus meeting is intended to begin answering some of these questions by
bringing together subject matter experts from the architecture standards
bodies to provide their perspective on the issues. The meeting will be
in the form of a moderated panel discussion bringing together
representatives from Open Group, OASIS, OMG, the Integration Consortium/SOA
Alliance, and W3C. The
panelists will address issues related to the topics mentioned above and
then take questions from the audience.
