Subject: SOA RM to ISO and official ISO specification
All: During the last few months, I have had a few conversations about the future of the SOA RM work. One of the potential paths is to submit the reference model to ISO (the Internationa Stnadards Organization) as a candidate for approval as a full fledged ISO stnadard. This is not trivial from a management perspective however given the full bread of the work and the durability of it and scope of influence, it seems to be a logical next step. The steps for doing this are described here: http://www.oasis-open.org/committees/liaison_policy.php#submitwork What we need to do is have an official TC meeting to discuss this in more detail and establish a work plan to go forward. Before we do that, I would like to invite comments from TC members towards this proposition. Please use this thread to reply. Here are some considerations to ponder: 1.The name of the organization and the organization's committee/group to which the submission will be made. DN: Proposed to ISO, exact committee TBD. 2. The purpose of the submission (e.g. for approval under the other organizations' process; for inclusion in the other organization's work plan, etc.), as well as a short description of the other organization's approval process, including estimated time required, stages or approval and who votes at each step, and the desired outcome (i.e. what will the spec be called once it is approved). TBD 3. How the submission will benefit OASIS (e.g. enhance the status of the spec by having the other organization's name on it). TBD 4. The copyright terms used by the other organization in regard to the submission.
