Subject: FYI: OASIS April Symposium Submission

I attached a symposium submission that Rex and I are
preparing for the April OASIS symposium (Rex would be
the presenter). The OASIS SOA Reference Architecture
plays an important role in the submission.

The text of the attached document follows.

Proposal for Presentation
OASIS Symposium 2008

SOA Composability in Service Aggregations: Evolving
Emergency Management & Health Care
Registry-Repositories in a SOA Ecosystem

Brief description:
This presentation focuses on demonstrating how the
OASIS SOA Reference Architecture from the OASIS SOA
Reference Model Technical Committee can be implemented
across organizational boundaries through SOA
Registry-Repositories for the domains of emergency
management and health informatics. Further, this
presentation shows how standards from the OASIS
Emergency Management Technical Committee can be used
in aggregated services at need to provide improved
rapid emergency response as well as improved overall
response to emergency incidents.

Extended abstract:

SOA Composability in Service Aggregations:
Evolving Emergency Management and Health Care
Registry-Repositories in a SOA Ecosystem.
By Rex Brooks and Danny Thornton

Service Consumers such as Emergency Operations Centers
must find trusted Service Providers quickly in
critical situations. For interoperability, both must
implement Standards.

A newly formed group of companies and individuals, the
Integrated Response Services Consortium (IRSC)
provides resources for Service Providers and
communities in Emergency Management and Healthcare
through a Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA). This
group includes OASIS members from the Emergency
Management Technical Committee and the SOA Reference
Model Technical Committee.

IRSC runs SOA Registry-Repositories for Emergency
Management and Healthcare.

For Emergencies, IRSC lists services for sirens,
radios, reverse 911 and Geospatial location services.
For Healthcare, IRSC lists Hospitals, Clinics,
Laboratories and Clinical Results Reporting Services.
For both domains, IRSC lists Decision Support Service
Systems.

IRSC is intended to be a one-stop shop for locating
Services, Service Providers, Standards and Standards
Development Organizations. Our goal is to save
critical response time in emergencies and enable
improved medical care.

The first part of this presentation will cover
profiling the OASIS SOA Reference Architecture Service
Description to the ebXML Reference Information Model
(RIM). Sun's ebXML and UDDI compliant Service Registry
will be demonstrated as a realization of the OASIS SOA
Reference Architecture Service Description to ebXML
RIM profile.

To be useful, the SOA registries provide means by
which services that adhere to these standards can be
found with the WSDLs for given services along with
Business Process Modeling (BPM) information using
these WSDLs which can be converted to BPEL and/or
WSBPEL for service choreography.

This effort intends to provide facilities to aid
widespread adoption of emergency management and
healthcare standards as a requirement for building
national and international interoperability of
applications in both domains. This effort emphasizes
rapid response in the "Golden Hour" critical for
saving lives. Domain-specific registries collect
existing standards and the standards organizations for
that domain, along with materials such as white
papers, best practice recommendations, user's guides,
primers and references to conformance and compliance
testing facilities or programs.

Providing semantic services in addition to ebXML
RIM-based classifications will provide service
providers with the means to add value statements to
their service descriptions to help consumers find and
deploy their services together to better effect.
