Subject: Re: [soa-rm] Fwd: High-Level Graphic Defn of SOA

Hi Ken,

I've been using slide 8 of this outline deck for long enough that it
seems like forever. Feel free to use it with a citation. It really
needs its complement, which details reusability of modular
components, but I didn't include that in this particular slide deck.
This deck is what I presented to the NCOIC Services Working Group
this morning. If anyone doesn't know, NCOIC stands for Net-Centric
Operations Industry Consortium.

This deck is getting started on the ER pattern that will be one of
three included, but not yet scheduled for the 7th SOA for
E-Government Conference at MITRE http://federalsoa.wik.is/ I'll be
doing this remotely, unless a sponsor turns up. This is one I'd
actually like to attend in person, but beggars can't be choosers.
I'll probably work on getting a DHS-sponsored OASIS EM TC
face-to-face to kick off the EDXL Situation Reporting effort in this
same time frame, but it is such short notice that it seems unlikely
at best.

However, I will be casting this pattern in the formal NCOIC template
in considerably more detail. You can see the outline at
http://networkcentricity.wik.is/Emergency_Response_%2f%2f_Emergency_Management_Pattern
I will be using the RA, so I'll pass that section by the SC if I get
it done in time. The Common Alerting Protocol-Integrated Public Alert
and Warning System Profile in its 60-Day Public Review is scheduled
to heat up again next week, and talks with Google about collaborating
on an EDXL-Hospital AVailability Exchange project or set of projects
got started yesterday, and the RA plays into that effort as well.

BTW Allen Jones of Boeing, who works on The Open Group SOA efforts is
a member of the Services WG, and I expect we'll be having more
conversations moving forward. I mentioned our effort to
coordinate/align with TOG and OMG.

I am in the midst of reviewing the Design Time Services Integration
Pattern being worked by Mikael Laby of EADS which provides a model of
the NCOIC Pattern template. It appears to be a case where we were put
in contact just in time to avoid duplication of effort and leverage
our efforts together.

The theme for the SOA-EGov conference is SOA in Cloud Computing, so I
will be pestering Dave to get permission to use some of his diagrams.
If it wasn't so much work, this would be sort of exciting, but it iss
welcom to get so much more mileage out of the work I was already
doing.

Cheers,
Rex
