Subject: now we need SOA-RM participation [was: [soa-rm] Public Review of Reference Architecture Foundation for Service Oriented Architecture Version 1.0]

Dear SOA-RM TC members,

The Reference Architecture has just been announced for a second 60-day review.  We have made significant progress since the PR1 review in May 2008 and hopefully are close to complete in most of the current document.  However, that is really what the review will tell us.

First, please review the document and provide your comments.  For those of you who have not been active participants in the current writing and have not followed the discussions, what of this document is clear and concise (yes, it's always nice to hear positive thoughts) and what rambles a bit or doesn't adequately make its points?  It is critical that the document be useful and understandable by those who aren't familiar with the debates that led to the current wording.

Second, please distribute this within other communities in which you participate.  I have commented in the past that the formal OASIS comment process can be burdensome unless you are really committed to submitting comments, so I also ask you to listen carefully and submit comments you hear informally from others.  We are looking for the widest possible dissemination and the widest possible review, and that can happen only if our members act as our ambassadors to the wider community.

Note, one of the purposes of the OASIS comment process is to avoid someone slipping their IPR into a spec and making implementation dependent on IPR that has no clear licensing commitments attached.  This should be less of an issue with a spec at the RA level, but it is something to consider when comments come your way.

Our next RM meeting is scheduled for the week after the public review ends.  If there is reason to move it up to be within the review period. bring that up and we can respond accordingly.

Looking forward to your comments.
