Subject: Re: [soa-rm] SOA-RM 20150304 dial-in info

I do not mind to wait for the outcome. I would only recommend to use wording that were not precluded the opportunity to address software an non-software (or not-only-software=combined) services.

Adding the full soda-rm mailing list to the discussion.

I’ll stand by my initial position that I need to see some initial examples of what the ontology would look like, discuss the implications of following that path, and then give people a chance to suggest alternatives/modifications.

Michael, Peter,

This is an important issue. I understand from our last meeting that we have successfully resolved this if not please advise. Our resolution is that SOA executable software services derive from the Information Artifact Ontology (IAO), Information Content Entity (ICE). IAO itself derives from Basic Formal Ontology (BFO). BFO divides existence into Continuants (3 dimensional objects) and  Occurants (processes). We agreed that a Business Service (as in a phone consultation) will derive from BFO.Occurant. I believe this gives us a rigorous means to discuss both types of services in the same conversation.

Sorry I missed the discussion but I agree with Michael. We need to be very careful in opening that particular issue again.

I am strongly disagree with the apdate of service definition showm in the William's message - this is 2 steps back into Information Technology while SO Ecosystem moves quite deeply inot business realm. A service, a Business Service, is a quite physiscal substance with people, machines, operations, programmes, infrastructures and so on.It is i in no way an "Information Content Entity".

If we are going to build an ontology for informational services, we will lose the most advanced part of the SO Ecosystem. At lease, I will not be able to use it in my progress into new standard on Business Architectue (based on SO Ecosystem).

Team,

My briefing deck is not in presentable shape. My deck message is that Entities from the RM need to classified as IAO types. Each RM type definition needs to be edited to reflect the update as the RM service type is updated below. I understand the editing each RM entity is a lot of work. I will join you shortly and we can discuss why I think this is necessary.

a service is an Information Content Entity that is a mechanism to enable access to one or more capabilities, where the access is provided using a prescribed interface and is exercised consistent with constraints and policies as specified by the service description
