Subject: Re: [soa-rm] More MSA v. SOA reading

Folks, if you rescall, 7 years ago there was a term 'Technical SOA' comprising SOAP, ESB and even REST, CORBA, etc. This 'Technical SOA' hwas proclaimed dead on 1 Jan. 2009 by Anne Thomas and I was one of the first supporteds to this. Particularly, that time IT managers made business promices to the business and dramatically failed becuse in reality operated with interfaces only.

'Technical SOA' tries to resurect and start talking functionality remaning the same interfaces - API/Michroservices. I anticipate the next failure becuase providers of Microservices carry no business responsibilities to the consumers and can do with consumer's data whatever they want.

In the Executive Lodge here in the UK, the debates are now about the popular movenment of API, Amazon-like behaviour of no guarantee of the data safety and, simultaneously, new EU regulation that makes API providers (data collectors and analysts) responsible for the data privacy compromise associated with the humangous fines. This makes a conflict of interests between the USA and EU providers&consumers including the UK, which is assumed to be out of EU later than the regulation gets in force.

I’ve been through this one and it was actually the basis for Bob Natale and I talking with NGINX.  Good piece.  One of the points I took issue with was the usual portrayal of SOA as SOAP and the ESB.  One of the people we spoke with said he wasn’t the author but likely would not have couched things that way.

I should probably browse this again.

Hi Folks,

As if we didn't already have too much info, I ran across this today and downloaded it myself. Although it is offered through NGINX, it is not an endorsement of their products. It's an O'Reilly book, or booklet to be fair.

https://www.nginx.com/microservices-soa/

It's only 45 pages and has enough diagrams so that it isn't so text heavy as to be major tough sledding. However, I t is not the kind of side-by-side comparison we're developing.

Cheers,
Rex
