Subject: RE: [stdsreg] committee introductions
I'm Monica Vago and I'm with the InterNational Committee for Information Technology Standards (INCITS). INCITS has been known as NCITS and X3 in its earlier years. INCITS's mission is to produce market-driven, voluntary consensus standards in the area of Information Technology. Some of our best known activities are: multimedia (MPEG/JPEG), intercommunication among computing devices and information systems (including the Information Infrastructure,SCSI-2 interfaces, Geographic Information Systems), storage media (hard drives, removable cartridges), database (including SQL3), security, and programming languages (such as C++). Most of the standardization activities result in national (ANSI) standards and international (ISO/IEC) standards. INCITS currently has 612 published standards: 56 NCITS standards, 202 X3 standards, and 354 ANSI/ISO standards. I am participating in order to ensure that whatever information sharing efforts that we participate in will be of a benefit to our members in providing the latest information available to our member organizations. Best'; stdsreg@lists.oasis-open.org Subject: RE: [stdsreg] committee introductions My name is Lois Ferson and I am with ISA -- The Instrumentation, Systems, and Automation Society. ISA is a standards writing organization, developing consensus standards for sensors, instruments, computers, and systems for measurement and control in a wide variety of applications. Established in 1945 and accredited by the American National Standards Institute, ISA has published more than 140 standards, recommended practices, and technical reports. For additonal information see http://www.isa.org. Currently, ISA is drafting a white paper for the instrumentation, systems, and automation field which outlines a high-level classification scheme and attempts to define the structure, time and resources needed to develop a full taxonomy for is&a. I hope to apply the methodology developed within this group to ongoing efforts at ISA and to facilitate exchange of information between this group and groups active within ISA. Lois M.
