Subject: [stdsreg] StdsReg meeting minutes, 25 June [n023]
Minutes of the Standards Registry committee conference call #9, 25 June 2002 [document N023] Attendence: Karl Best, Makx Dekkers, Em delaHostria, Bob Hager, John Ketchell (Call hosted by OASIS) 1. Introduction Roll call and welcome from Karl Best. The agenda was approved (document N022) 2. Approval of record of seventh meeting (document N020) The record was approved. 3. Review of the status of action items Action 5.2. Sally Fuger: input on metadata from ebXML Registry. Deferred in Sally's absence 4. Inter-op Summit Conference Karl would chair this Conference on the first day, Thursday, and would present the current background and status of the StdsReg Committee. Bob would present the proposed meta-data specification in its current form. The initial presentation of the idea to the first Summit Conference had been welcomed, so no doubt additional interest would be generated by the update. There might be some value in a discussion of the suggested public validation process, and also in terms of presenting possible scenarios for the eventual end-use of the final specification. Such scenarios might include the use of the meta-data within an SDO, and its use within a development company (e.g. a software vendor) requiring information on what existed in standardized form. 5. Approval process, incl. possible public review period Promoting implementation of the spec upon completion Bob requested postponement of this agenda item until the next meeting, as he had to leave the call. This was agreed. 6. Version 2.5 of meta-data specification (N021) This had been provided quickly by Bob after the previous meeting. Bob noted that Martin Bryan had provided some helpful comments by e-mail, especially regarding implementation. The issue of languages - separate records for individual language versions, with meta-data in that language. This left the question of what happened where there was one single standards document itself containing multiple languages. Makx felt that there was no problem about indicating the languages of such a standard in the meta-data, but the meta-data itself ought in theory to be in a single language. However, this might be politically unacceptable for certain SDOs. Concerning cross-referrals between standards, it was noted that version 2.5 contained two such reference issues - what a standard points to ("normative references") and "obsolete standards". However, the meeting noted that there seemed to be other variants on this reference issue, such as national endorsements. Em also noted that in some cases, standards were associated with regulatory or other measures (eg containing product marking). The meeting therefore agreed to add a suitable section. It was noted that the wording "normative references from" should be corrected to "normative references to". Martin had also asked how to specify references to standards in cases where one standard had multiple designations from different organizations, eg ISO 123, BS-ISO 123. This needed some further consideration. However, we also needed in a wider sense to consider how standards registries should interact in connection with the meta-data. It was noted that a "date of most recent change" for the meta-data itself might be a useful addition. Bob and Em had to leave the meeting at that point. Makx agreed to circulate some additional comments on the exploder. 7. Any other business None 8. Next meeting This was agreed for July 9 at the usual time (noon ET). CEN/ISSS would host the call. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- -- Best regards John Ketchell Director, CEN/ISSS - Information Society Standardization System URL:http://www.cenorm.be/isss Rue de Stassart, 36 email (direct) john.ketchell@cenorm.be B-1050 Brussels email (secretariat) isss@cenorm.be Belgium Tel (direct) + 32 2 550 08 46 Fax + 32 2 550 09 66 Tel (secretariat) + 32 2 550 08 13 Tel (GSM) +32 475 594 828 ---------------------------------------------------------------- The archive of this mail list is available at http://lists.oasis-open.org/archives/stdsreg/ To subscribe or unsubscribe from this elist use the subscription manager: <http://lists.oasis-open.org/ob/adm.pl>
