Subject: RE: [stdsreg] SDOs List for Public Review

Bob

Well done!

Following observations:

1. last edition of our own survey is now nearly 12 months old (noted with
horror). We have a chunk of unpublihsed data, mostly additionals, since
(and of course a new edition is under consideration). When the lady
responsible is here on Thursday I shall ask her to prepare a list of deltas
that she can send you (plus anything else we can decide is needed during the
meeting).

2. It's not at all clear why you think to date our own list includes only
US organizations, as it does not! It was always global in nature, and
therefore includes numbers of bodies based elsewhere (of course, recognising
your dominance in the technology, it's not surprising that most are US
based, but in fact very few in the ICT domain seem to discriminate against
us Europeans).

I don't know how therefore you managed that your list only included the
US-based ones on our's, but it's an easy matter to rectify this!

3. Another source - http://www.etsi.org/forawatch/dontdelete.htm. This is
the list of our partner body ETSI, therefore mainly telecom perspective. In
fact, we exchange data between us, but since our own has not been
re-published for 12 months, I bet they now have numbers of bodies not on our
list, as they are more efficient at including new ones. They also have,
somewhat curiously, in their 471 bodies people like ITU-T study groups and
indeed ourselves...

4. In the public review, we shall contact the ICT Standards Board members
(European but including local reps. of numbers of major bodies like W3C), as
well as reps. of the CEN Members reps. and try to co-ordinate responses
(without prejudice to direct comments if they prefer).

5. A minor quibble, we are CEN/I-triple-S...

Subject: [stdsreg] SDOs List for Public Review

I've posted a preliminary list (v1.0) of Standards Developing Organizations
at the following location:

http://www.ansi.org/reports/master.asp?room=70

This list could form the basis of our distribution list for public review.
While it only includes the acronym and full name of the organization, we
also have updated contact information for most of them.

The list was compiled (with overlaps eliminated) from the following sources:

+ A recently updated version of NIST Special Publication 806, Feb 1991:
"Standards Activities of Organizations in the United States". Each
organization on the list was verified in 2002 for its existence and contact
information via the web.

+ ANSI Accredited Standards Developers

+ Diffuse.org Standards Fora List

+ CEN/ISS Survey of Standards-Related Fora and Consortia, September 2001
(http://www.cenorm.be/isss/consortia/surveyshort.htm). To date, this list
includes only the U.S. organizations, but could easily be expanded to
include international.

Other potential avenues to consider:
+ ISO and IEC Member Bodies
+ ANSI's Organization Member Council
+ Government Member Council
+ Company Member Council.
