Subject: welcome (again)
All: Welcome to this list which we will use to investigate how to
best encourage and facilitate the creation of test assertions for OASIS
specifications/standards and beyond. If everything goes well, the actual work will be done in a
new OASIS TC to be started soon if there is enough interest from the
participants. So no need to dive into deep technical debates on this list
– let us spare these for the [hopefully] coming TC… In this list, we will mostly discuss: - the merits of a “Test Assertions Guideline”
document that pretends to be usable across many specifications and standards. - the usual: objectives / requirements, audience, related
efforts… - the scope of what should go in such a guide, the role of
which may stretch from just providing the most basic clues on test assertion
(TA) writing and design (a kind of “test assertions for dummies”
guide as someone I know put it) , to more advanced considerations on how to use
such TAs to define conformance profiles or levels, or to a mark-up for
representing TAs. - possible alternative (additional) ways to promote the
design of Test Assertions, e.g. a wiki of examples, etc. - charter details for a possible Tech Committee on this.
Feel free to advertise this list to people external to OASIS
(its use is not restricted to members only), if you think they can bring a
valuable perspective or input. And no, this list is not just for nerds who find test
assertions glamorous…but for anyone facing the hard reality of [preparing
for] testing the conformance of a specification or standard, and just
interested in getting the whole thing behind them with as little pain as
possible… Regards, Moderator of the list Fujitsu Computer Systems (Enterprise Software &
Solutions Group) Jdurand @ us . fujitsu . com office: 408-746-6134 |
