Report from participants at Madrid F2F - Slides from events available at http://www.xbrl.org/nmpxbrl.aspx?id=131 The Tax track at the XBRL Conference HJvB reports: - It was a full day coordinated by OASIS Tax XML - It was generally very well received; provide good exposure to consortium - It also provided exposure of the direction of the XBRL consortium to OASIS Tax XML members, with the good and the bad. Unless it is properly constituted and administered, for example, the new XBRL Standards Board (XSB) may bring into question the legal definition of open standard. - The concept of "whole government-multi-agency is better than single regulator" was highlighted The Tax XML Face to Face held concurrently - There were working sessions for the Indirect Tax group and the Tax XBRL Liaison group working on the paper; good progress was made - There was an opportunity for the Spanish tax administration to be exposed to the Tax XML work 2. Updates from Subworking groups' facilitators - Seamless Audit Trail: Eric E. Cohen EEC reports: A new group is being developed within XBRL; this GL-FR interoperability/Hybrid reporting group is working to bring more of the technical and practical issues of this link to the attention of the community. A number of prototypes showing this are being developed in XBRL US work with the US Government. These will help more people understand the power of XBRL GL, the standardized Global Ledger, and its role in the Seamless Audit Trail; this may help more people understand and take part. - XBRL Framework document: Alex Fiteni EEC reports: The document is moving forward. CB reports the ATO's involvement in some of its development as we speak. - Developer/End user facilitation: George Farkas GF report: A group has self-identified itself as being willing to associate itself with this effort. A first call started it. GF will continue to move it along. 3. Updates and news - Notes from 9 June 2006 conference (completed) Presentations available at http://www.xbrl.org/uk/9June2006/ HJvB notes that there were a few bumps and bruises at an interesting conference. - Upcoming XBRL US conferences, 27 and 29 June 2006 Information available at http://www.xbrl.org/us/events CB notes that Australia is moving along, considering many different issues, such as "registering business names" as possible projects. HJvB notes that the NL taxonomy has reached version 1.0, a major meeting took place on 9 June, 52 parties signed a groundbreaking agreement. EL notes that XBRL quarterly meetings are taking place in the US Government; a community of practice XBRL web site has been established; a number of prototypes and proofs of concept - such as reporting as a Web service within the government - have been shared. 4. Other issues (as time permits) - Update on XBRL developments and impact of Tax XML The group has determined that it would be good for Tax XML to send a letter with its priorities to the XSB to encourage the prioritization of certain standards (e.g., formula linkbase, rendering, GL-FR interoperability) over other standards (dimensional taxonomies). EEC was asked to provide a first draft for the group to consider. - Update on other supported standards, and impact on XBRL and Tax XML None noted. - Other discussions The next Tax XML meeting is scheduled tentatively in October in San Francisco (USA); the timing of holidays and San Francisco area festivals may indicate that a changing in the exact dates will be necessary.
