Subject: eGroups.com: You have been added to the xtm-wg group.

This is the eGroups.com service.

You have been added to the xtm-wg@egroups.com group.

Here is a welcome message provided by pconn@gca.org:

------------------
You have been added to the Topic Maps.org (XML Topic Maps) mailing list, hosted by IDEAlliance. The address to post messages to the group is xtm-wg@egroups.com.

You have also been given access to the Topic Maps.org Working Group web site at www.egroups.com. This site is a turnkey system that we use to manage the group's mailing list, calendar, discussion group, contact list, document archive, and more. This web site is open to anyone.

The address to post messages to the group is xtm-wg@egroups.com. This will post your messages to the web message board and distribute them to the group via email at the same time.

The web site is fairly intuitive, but following are some instructions to help you find your way around the site. This is somewhat wordy, so please read carefully.

Registration

As stated above, the XTM-WG web site is open to anyone, however, in order to access the XTM-WG group, you must first register with eGroups. If you already participate in a different eGroups group, you don't need to register again, you would simply use the same password that you already have and the system will indicate that you belong to multiple groups, allowing you to work with any of them.

To register as a new user, first go to the eGroups site at www.egroups.com. Click on the "Sign Up" link and follow the instructions. Your logon ID will be your email address, and you can make up your own password. From then on, you can logon to your account on the eGroups home page.

Once you've logged on, you will be shown the list of groups to which you subscribe. Simply click on the group name to work with a group. You can return to the list at any time by clicking on the "My Space" link on the upper right portion of the screen.

Features

Once you've selected a group, you'll see a row of blue tabs that identify the various tools available to the group. All of them are enabled, but so far I have set up the following:

Members - This is the actual mailing list of group members. You can click on the "edit" link next to your email address to modify your profile. More on this below.
Messages - This is the web message board. It contains all messages sent to the group and gives you the option to view them by thread.
Calendar - All conference calls, meetings, due dates, etc. can be posted here
Database - This page allows us to set up simple databases.
Vault - This is the document archive where we will post documents for review and distribution.

Profiles

As stated above, you have the ability to designate some features of your own profile. Most notable is that you can determine when and how you receive messages posted to the group. Your options are:

Individual E-Mails - The same as you're used to on most listserves. Each time a message is posted, you'll receive it as an email. This is the default setting.
Daily Full-Text Digest - Once a day you'll receive an email that consists of the full message bodies of all the messages posted to the group in the last 24 hours.
Daily Summary - Once a day you'll receive an email that contains only the message subjects and authors of all the messages posted to the group in the last 24 hours. To read those message. Simply click on the links included in the summary message and it will take you to the group message page.
Read it on the Web Only- You won't receive email from the group at all, but you can view them on the website.
You can change your delivery mode any time you like by clicking on the "edit" link next to your email address in the Members listing.

Thank you for your interest and support of this exciting and important initiative. Please let me know if you have any problems or questions.
