There is no functional difference between:

id="myprefix.original_id_value"

and

id="mynsprefix:original_id_value"

They are equally easy to create and equally unique. Namespaces add no
value in this use case.

IDs are just object IDs. Each new version of a document is a new
document and establishes a new ID name space. Any system that depends on
IDs persisting across versions is doomed to fail so don't even try to do
it.

Also, ID shouldn't be required because the are unnecessary. All topic
instances are inherently identified by their position in the document
that contains them--IDs are just a convenience.
