Of course, as Graham said, if an association has an id the processor can handle it. Better is if it also has a type (as in the original ISO form), then it is easy to know what kind of topic it is. As long as the type reference exists (call it a subject if you like, but here it means "an instance of', like the original ISO definition) , we can make assertions like ass#3.
