Subject: [xtm-wg] MOTION: TopicMaps.Org Member Section under OASIS

I have been watching the mailing list over the past week or so and have seen
only positive comments about the possibility of a move to OASIS. Therefore
I would propose the following:

================================================================
MOTION:
The chairman of TopicMaps.Org (and his designates) is hereby requested to
begin work to create an OASIS Member Section, to be provisionally called
TopicMaps.Org. This work is to be completed by August 1, 2001.
================================================================

DEADLINE/DETAILS:
This will need a second. It is a YES/NO vote.

All AG members in good standing are requested to vote on this motion to the
mailing list by close of business on June 15, 2001.

DISCUSSION:
If this motion passes, I will contact OASIS and any organizational members
of OASIS who are also AG members [currently DataChannel (Eric), Sun
(Murray), RivCom (Daniel), empolis (Graham), Mondeca (Jean)]. This group
will:
1) create the member section under OASIS bylaws;
2) define an interim charter to be approved at Extreme Markup in Montreal
(must include the goals of the member section, intended work products,
manner of governance) - the OASIS board must approve this also;
3) select an interim chair [the advisory board (a permanent chair, technical
director and marketing director) must be elected in August, unless our
charter says we don't want to do that structure].

The goal is to have the groundwork in place for a member recruitment meeting
one evening during the week of Extreme Markup in Montreal, sponsored by
OASIS.

If this motion passes, the meeting on August 18 will be a meeting of the
member section to hold elections, approve a charter, designate technical
committees and hopefully begin work. Some of the other technicality work,
like votes by the AG to move, etc. will be done through email prior to the
conference.
