Of course I had and would not have wasted our time reinventing a wheel
if I would not have thought that there is room for improvement.

As Lars was concerned adopting some approaches into LTM 1.x, I thought
it worth to give it an independent try. I was discussing with Lars this 
issue  extensively and our understanding was - Lars correct me in case - 
that there is room for another language and time/support will tell.
