Subject: RE: [topicmaps-comment] Introduction

P.S. Regarding standards work, I omitted to mention that I was also
editor of NewsML, the XML-based standard for packaging and managing news
objects in multiple media, from IPTC (International Press
Telecommunications Council - www.iptc.org)

Subject: [topicmaps-comment] Introduction

Introducing myself:

My name is Daniel Rivers-Moore. I'm Director of New Technologies at
RivCom, a consultancy and services company based in the UK that
specialises in helping organisations with their information management
and delivery requirements.

I've been involved in a number of standards initiatives, including the
STEP/SGML harmonisation initiative under ISO (aiming to bring together
ISO engineering data standards with technical documentation standards),
XML itself (as a member of the XML Special Interest Group during the
development of the XML 1.0 specification), and more recently XTM (where
I was chair of the Conceptual Model subgroup within the XTM Authoring
Group at TopicMaps.Org). RivCom was also represented on the XSL Working
Group during the development of XSLT, and was a participant in the
EU-funded XML/EDI Pilot Project during 1999.

Particular interest is in the application of knowledge management and
business activity modelling within large enterprises, to deliver
appropriate knowledge and/or information to people based on their
context within the enterprise and the particular activities or business
processes they are involved with.

Since the release of XTM, I've found my bandwidth severely stretched,
and so have had to become much more of a lurker on these lists. However,
I am involved in a collaborative initiative called KnoW (Knowledge on
the Web), whose aim is to study the capabilities, interrelationships and
possible synergies between various standards and technologies relevant
to knowledge on the Web. For more information about this, you can visit
www.knowweb.org
