Subject: Re: [topicmaps-comment] WANTED: Topic Map reference applications

Under development, but will be in productive use soon (academic environment)

Name: Working title of the application framework 'Groupware-based Topic Map'

Customer: Development within the context of my PhD research at the Groupware Competence Center (http://gcc.upb.de), University of Paderborn, Germany

Brief description: The research project K-Discovery provides a conceptual framework, an architecture and an implementation approach to create knowledge structures by generating topic maps in organizational memories. It consists of several components, in particular there are the 'Groupware-based Topic Map Engine', the 'Groupware-based Topic Map Modeler', and the 'Groupware-based Topic Map Navigator' (called 'Semantic Surfer'). Components for the visual navigation of groupware-based topic maps are under development. In addition to the existing techniques of search and navigation in groupware environments, like hierarchical navigation in categories of views or full text search, the user can be supported by the strong concept of associative navigation in semantic networks. The goal of this project is to support users in finding relevant knowledge or information in distributed organizational memories by combining groupware paradigms and topic maps.
