Subject: RE: [tosca-interop] Groups - Interop SC Questionnaire Response Sheet 2012-09-10.xls uploaded

When answering the following questions, please note that any reference to "interop activities" mean the private development/testing activities among TOSCA TC member only unless otherwise stated.

  1. Which TOSCA specification version should we use as a basis for Q4 interop activities (e.g. WD-11, WD-12)?

WD-11

  1. Does your company intend to participate in a TOSCA interop activities during Q4 2012?   In Q1 2013?

            Yes

  1. If you intend to participate in TOSCA Q4, 2012 interop activities, please describe how your company intends to participate (i.e. demonstrate a TOSCA deployment container, tools, etc.)

Deploy service template with a TOSCA container, create/edit service template with design/modeling tool.

  1. If you intend to participate in TOSCA Q1, 2013 interop activities, please describe how your company intends to participate (i.e. demonstrate TOSCA deployment container, tools, etc.)

More complex demonstration than in Q4 with more complex applications, topologies, and a diversity of clouds, which show TOSCA’s unique capabilities.

  1. Should a service template built around the SugarCRM use case (deployment scenario) be used for Q4 2012 "private" interop activities?  Please explain if your answer was "No" and suggest alternatives.

Yes, SugarCRM should be considered the most fundamental ‘helloworld’ example. Of course, additional variations of SugarCRM (with load balancers, caches, clustered databases, integration components, and references to external services) are possible or other applications will be needed to serve as ‘reference’ service templates. The benefit of using SugarCRM include: 0) it’s easy to understand and deploy yourself manually; 1) it’s open source and avoids licensing issues; 2) it can be deployed in rather complex configurations beyond its most basic; 3) it is a real business application used by 1000’s of companies.

  1. Should a service template built around the SugarCRM use case (deployment scenario) be used for Q4 2012 a "public" interop demo (if TOSCA Interop SC agrees and reaches this point)?  Please explain if your answer was "No" and suggest alternatives.

No. The way the TC has been looking at SugarCRM has been in its most basic topology, which presents no significant challenges for existing tools and techniques to deploy and manage. An application should be chosen which imposes significant challenges that highlight the unique capabilities of TOSCA.

  1. if the "private phase" of interop development/testing around an agreed upon TOSCA deployment scenario in Q4 2012 completes successfully, and the participating interop companies agree, would your company be willing to participate in a public interop demonstration in Q4 2012?  In Q1 2013?

Vnomic aims to participate in demonstrations which highlight the true capabilities of TOSCA with a complex application of high business value. Additionally, Vnomic encourages TOSCA to focus public demonstrations on the unique capabilities of TOSCA in addition to just showing industry support with multiple vendors. Vnomic public demo participation is generally a function of the kind of capabilities demonstrated. For the basic form of SugarCRM, vnomic could participate but would most likely not travel to the venue, whereas for sophisticated demonstrations it would be interested in full participation at the venue.
