Subject: RE: Groups - Action Item "TOSCA & Cloud Foundry" Modified
Ø
One notes that VMWare/Pivotal bought Puppet, I believe. No, that’s not true. First, Pivotal and VMware are different corporate entities. VMware had previously invested in PuppetLabs, along with the other investors
Google, Cisco, KPCB, True Ventures and Radar Partners. When Pivotal was announced, VMware simultaneously increased their investment in PuppetLabs. At least one blogger considers this a hedge against CloudFoundry, and an indication that some at VMware see CloudFoundry as somewhat competitive to their agenda:
http://apprenda.com/blog/vmwares-puppetlabs-investment-a-cloudfoundry-hedge/ But the interlocking-ownership paradigm used by EMC to own some but not all of VMware, VCE and now Pivotal is designed exactly to allow these federated companies
to both cooperate and compete with each other. So, not a problem. I would add this comment to the action item, but it tells me I don’t have permissions to do that. Best, --Richard From: workgroup_mailer@lists.oasis-open.org [mailto:workgroup_mailer@lists.oasis-open.org]
