Subject: [OASIS Issue Tracker] (TOSCA-215) Ability to Manage node(s) by a Manager node

    [ https://issues.oasis-open.org/browse/TOSCA-215?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel&focusedCommentId=51140#comment-51140 ]

Matthew Rutkowski commented on TOSCA-215:
------------------------------------------

The Manager node to a group of Managed nodes is a pattern we have been asked to explore/prove out as a use case. Basically, we need to prove that the model operations allow sufficient communication between the Manager and its managed nodes to be able to track them, configure them during deployment and update them based upon some external criteria (perhaps an upgrade) without the use of a "plan". This use case was something we planned to tackle in January after we completed coding existing use cases in the TOSCA Heat-Translator. The intent of introducing this in January was that we have already performed a "paper" exercise (with other companies) to show it could be done with existing spec. operations, but we prefer to code it to make sure it works in practice. In addition, we have many more basic use cases to work out with policies/credentials and now nested stacks to figure out before then (and we also have to complete the coding of the new Network functions to actually test even basic 2 subnet communications).

> Provide an ability to create a ‘Manager’ node which can manage one or more ‘Manage’ node. The Manager node can configure Mange node(s) and do other things like passing certain properties between nodes. Manage node should able to provide notification for Manger to take needed actions.
> This is very important in order to embed an agent or orchestrator as part of TOSCA deployment.
> This is a high level description and I am opening it up for further discussion.
