Satisfying - great response to conference programme and seminars
Texworld’s dynamic growth goes on. In September, 18,595 trade visitors from more than 100 countries came to the Paris-based international trade fair for garment textiles, totalling seven percent more than in the autumn of the year before (17,305). February 2005 saw visitor figures of 16,820.
The majority of visitors came from Europe, with 55 % hailing from the EU and 15 % from Eastern Europe (primarily Turkey). 11.2 % came from Asia and 10.8 % from the Americas.
This autumn, a number of countries sent significantly more visitors than to the September fair in 2004. In the European Union, it was primarily France (+10 %) and Spain (+14 %) that were more highly represented. Among North American buyers, there were rises of 7 % from the United States and 10 % from Canada. Finally, 20 % more visitors came to Paris this time from South America and Mexico.
The figures for Asian visitors saw substantial increases as well – with Japan recording + 44 %, China + 55 %, Hong Kong + 9 % and South Korea + 18 %. And from the Middle East, including Egypt and Israel, there were 16 % more buyers than in the previous year.

China takes pole position
Another Texworld highlight was a press conference with six large textiles enterprises from China, including Shandong Ruyi, the Nanshan Group, Fujian Zhonghe, the Heilan Group, the Jiangsu Sunshine Group and GTL International. They answered the many questions from journalists and gave a clear definition of their targets for the future – to continue making huge investments and climb right up front among the leaders of the industry. Most of the ambitious private enterprises are either listed on the Shanghai stock market or have emerged from joint ventures with international groups from the United States, Australia or Italy.
Shandong Ruyi, Nashan, Heilan and Jiangsu Sunshine make woollen fabrics and buy all the wool they need from Australia. Their production facilities are equipped with state-of-the-art machines, largely originating from Switzerland, Germany, Italy or France. By making substantial investments in both production and sales, they have succeeded in building an extensive sales network with numerous shops and boutiques in China and Hong Kong, and other countries are scheduled to follow soon.
But their great strength continues to be their products themselves, which undoubtedly hold a place at the top of the high-quality segment. They include fabrics made of Super 100s to 200s wool or mixes of cashmere, wool, silk and angora.
