Subject: [ubl-cmsc] The hierarchical-context-value problem
I happened to be talking to Ron Daniel of Interwoven today, who mentioned their product called MetaTagger, which includes a taxonomy editor. This reminded me of the issue we've got with indicating you want a rule to trigger when a context value is X *or* any ancestor of X in the taxonomy, and so I asked him what they do in this case. It turns out that they take a sort of brute-force approach; there's no standard or especially clever way that Ron knows of to get this, and he's someone who should know. So stuffing all the ancestor values into a context description (geo="Europe:France") in order to let a context rule trigger on a higher-level value isn't *necessarily* the stupid idea I thought it might be...
