List maintenance

Well, I finally got into the list machinery today.  Thanks to a
lot of effort on the part of Tim, Lisa, and perhaps others, this
was not the vast wasteland that I'm sure it must have been a week
ago.  As a result, I was able to find my way around reasonably
quickly and managed to get a fair amount of nitty membership
review done.  I've summed up the changes below.  Please let me
know if you see anything I've missed.
