Agreed, I'd prefer Xmi as well, assuming some there is some tool
support.  It's certainly the underlying model I'm after initially, not
the picture.  The goal, of course, is to take the models, reuse and
extend them. JPEG just doesn't cut it.

There is no standard "native" format  for UML.  It is merely a two 
dimensional syntax, nothing more.  I disagree with any notion that UML 
should be sent in proprietary formats.  GIF, PDF and JPG and probably as

close to ubiquitous standards with free readers as we can get.

Most people think that the computer stores the UML in the same format 
they see it.  THis is not true.  There is always an underlying 
information model instance that provides the details for the rendering 
engine to present the UML on the users screen.

I would rather use XMI if the majority of UML tools supported it.
