All,

In financial systems (banking etc) it's quite common
practice to message in pence and/or cents.

This goes back to the old days and overcomes rounding
errors (and fraud) that can occur when decimals are
used in transaction processing.

Therefore, to be exactly sure that everything will
balance to the pence or cent, the exact value in
cents or pence are used as a safety precaution.
