Subject: RE: [ubl-dev] Simple ODF/XForms (OOo2/SO8) for UBL 1.0 Invoice

Steve,

Yes - Patrick Hogan frpom SinoTechnologies has been talking to the OSD
folks about putting Hermes / CAM combo into the *NIX distribution.

I think we may some progress on this in the new year. Other folks with
some clout - please feel free to follow-up to with RedHat et al!

Thanks, DW

Thanks David

How about if a company like Redhat or ... were to champion
this to package it all and make it as user friendly as possible?
(I cannot take credit for this idea by the way)

Seasons Greetings

Steve

Stephen,

Kudos on getting this started - I've been wanting to try this for a
while.

Here's the 50,000 ft view of the production architecture I have in mind
- using Hermes as the integration rather than email.

1) Partner goes to Registry - signs a form that autobuilds a CPA - and
then downloads an installer that contains XForm + Hermes server + CPA +
certificate.

2) Installs to local machine. When you hit "Submit" on the XForm it
sends the XML to http://localhost:9999/hermes and that then puts it on
the Hermes send queue and then connects to the central Hermes server
and delivers it securely.

3) Central Hermes checks the CPA credentials against the entry in the
Registry and authenticates sender. Passes to backend validation
services (CAM) and application processing.

4) Responses - follow-on msgs come back to local Hermes - user has
option to open local XForm menu showing sent / recieved transactions
(can also easily use XSL to render these).

What this gives you is secure reliable delivery with authentication in a
very lightweight package that is easily deployable to a trading partner.
Possible enhancements include the use of CAM as a validation service on
either end (sender or receiver), and with the new CAM we're working on
for release Q1 2006 - persistence from UBL to SQL database via simple
XML scripting.

Cheers, DW

Please note that if you open these forms
from the web archive they will need the
filename extensions changing to .odt

Also, if you have unix/linux you'll need to
change the target filepath/url for the submission
and the same change for the linked file of the
readonly form. At present both point to
file:///c:/invoice.xml so they could be changed
to something like file:///home/invoice.xml (not
quite sure if this is correct).

It should be possible to create a simple UBL 1.0
Invoice with one form (saved locally) then use
the other form to read it (from where it is saved)
and convert it to pdf (OpenOffice 2 and Star
Office 8 have this facility). Then either or both
as appropriate could be sent say by email (for
micro/small businesses this might be OK - please
don't blame me if it isn't) as attachments and/or
imported somehow into a finance system or
spreadsheet (perhaps with an office product
macro, say). Note that the first form, if used to
directly create a pdf, will in OOo2/SO8, produce
a form that can be edited before printing and this
would be unacceptably risky for sending as an
Invoice. Again, please accept that the use of the
forms is at users own risk.

All the best

Stephen Green

PS Really loved Juha's UBL greeting customisation!

Peace and Goodwill to all -
And y'all Love the Almighty back with all you've got!
