Subject: UBL 2.0 public review
Hello ubl-dev, I'm pleased to inform you that UBL 2.0 has now entered its first public review. The 60-day review period runs from 20 January 2006 to 21 March 2006. As stated in the official announcement (see below), we welcome your input. Before hitting the "send" button, however, please note the following. - This is a *first* public review. There will be at least one other public review, starting probably in June following a May 2006 UBL TC meeting in Brussels to dispose of comments received during the intial review period. - To be considered by the UBL TC, comments MUST be logged through the comment form on the OASIS UBL TC web page (see the announcement). Due to the large amount of spam received through this form, however, it's probably a good idea to copy your comments to the UBL chair (jon.bosak@sun.com) and vice chair (tmcgrath@portcomm.com.au) to ensure that they aren't lost in the noise. Feel free to discuss the public review draft on the list, but understand that we cannot consider comments unless they are submitted through the comment form. - Given the sizable expansion of material in this version (29 document types versus 8 in UBL 1.0), we are expecting to receive a lot of comments. To help us get through comment disposition in April and May, please read the release notes in the index.html file included in the package and check the current issues list to make sure you're not duplicating an issue that's already been identified. The issues list is located at http://www.eccnet.com/UniversalBusinessLanguage/IssuesList.xml (To see this, you will need a browser that supports XSL stylesheets, for example Firefox 1.5.) - The PDF file included in the review package as index.pdf is provided to satisfy a procedural requirement of the current OASIS TC process. It has no other function and should be ignored. Please don't send comments relating to the PDF file. - The UBL 1.0 Standard included a lot of supporting material for implementers. To aid in scheduling, the support material for UBL 2.0 will be published in a separate Support Package that will appear around the time that UBL 2.0 is ratified as an OASIS Standard. The Support Package will include (among other things) an explanation of the code list stategy adopted for UBL 2.0. For a preview of that strategy, see http://lists.oasis-open.org/archives/ubl-dev/200512/msg00034.html - This should be obvious from the foregoing, but in case it's not, you should understand that the specification in its present form is subject to considerable revision and is not intended to be implemented for anything but testing purposes. We strongly recommend against deploying the specification as it currently stands in production environments. - Members of the UBL TC are meeting next week (23-27 January 2006) in Manhattan and will be engaged largely in beginning preparation of the Support Package. Since some members will be traveling during the week following the meeting, response to email over the next two weeks may be slow in coming. Jon Bosak Chair, OASIS UBL TC ================================================================== Date: Fri, 20 Jan 2006 16:30:22 -0500 From: Mary McRae <mary.mcrae@oasis-open.org> Subject: [members] Public Review of UBL v2.0 To: members@lists.oasis-open.org, tc-announce@lists.oasis-open.org To: OASIS members, public announce lists The OASIS Universal Business Language (UBL) TC has approved the following specification document as a Committee Draft and approved the package for a 60-day public review: Universal Business Language v2.0 The public review starts today, 20 January 2006, and ends 21 March 2006. This is an open invitation to comment. Public review from potential users, developers and stakeholders is an important part of the OASIS process to assure interoperability and quality. Comments are solicited from all interested parties. Please feel free to distribute this announcement within your organization and to other appropriate mail lists. More non-normative information about the specification and the technical committee may be found at the public home page of the TC at http://www.oasis-open.org/committees/ubl. Comments may be submitted to the TC by any person, by a web-form that can be reached either on that page, via the button marked "Send A Comment" at the top of that page, or directly at http://www.oasis-open.org/committees/comments/form.php?wg_abbrev=ubl Submitted comments (for this work as well as other works of that TC) are publicly archived and can be viewed at http://lists.oasis-open.org/archives/ubl-comment/. All comments submitted to OASIS are subject to the OASIS Feedback License, to assure that the comment may be freely re-used by the TC; the license terms can be found on the comment web-form. The specification document and related files are available here: html: http://docs.oasis-open.org/ubl/prd-UBL-2.0/index.html zip archive: http://docs.oasis-open.org/ubl/prd-UBL-2.0.zip A pdf file is included in the zip archive, however, since this committee draft is created in XHTML, the TC asks that you refer to the html version for review purposes. OASIS and the UBL Technical Committee welcome your comments.
