It's good to see that the VAN services message exchanges are based on
ebXML ebMS enveloping. 

The whitepaper -

does a good job of explaining the current VAN based solution.  I'd be
interested to see how the 
work we just released for the freeb-UBL toolkit can potential aid
implementors too.
