Appreciate the feedback between the teaching.  Found your xslt zip.

CAM has saxon built-in - so I'll run our GC->CAM convertor xslt now I
know that saxon can grok the large input files (at least on *nix
anyway!).

Fingers crossed.  The CAM format is much sparser - so I'm estimating it
will reduce the amount of XML by 2/3rds - so those 20MB files should be
around 6MB with no content loss.  Also - by grouping by type - I'm
hoping I can then run a quick xslt filter to retrieve codes by
country...to further narrow down the list to just say EU and N.America,
or N.America, China, and other potentially useful combos.

At least the list for Lichenstein is a short one...
