Subject: UBL subcommittee openings
Hello UBL developers, Do you have a data item you've been wanting to see added to the UBL library? Or maybe even a whole new document type? Have you ever wanted to be part of an industry-changing open standards effort, or help lead its implementation in a particular place? Here's your chance! Starting this spring, the OASIS UBL Technical Committee will be working on our next point release, UBL 2.1. Due out in April 2009, UBL 2.1 will feature improvements to transportation documents, new document types for etendering, and expanded support for data input and reporting. Like every UBL release, UBL 2.1 will represent the work of volunteer experts dedicated to building the open infrastructure for electronic commerce. If you'd like to do your part, openings are now available in the following UBL subcommittees: OASIS UBL PSC (Procurement Subcommittee) Data modeling for tendering, ordering, and invoicing OASIS UBL TSC (Transportation Subcommittee) Data modeling for transportation and fulfillment OASIS UBL HISC (Human Interface Subcommittee) Mapping UBL to and from external representations (input and output forms), in particular, layout design and mappings for transportation and catalogue documents If you'd like to participate in efforts to deploy UBL in particular locales, you may be interested in joining one of the UBL Localization Subcommittees: OASIS UBL CNLSC (Chinese Localization Subcommittee) OASIS UBL DKLSC (Danish Localization Subcommittee) OASIS UBL ESLSC (Spanish Localization Subcommittee) OASIS UBL ITLSC (Italian Localization Subcommittee) OASIS UBL JPLSC (Japanese Localization Subcommittee) OASIS UBL KRLSC (Korean Localization Subcommittee) In addition to the full translations of the UBL Data Dictionary created by these existing localization subcommittees, subset translations have been created for Hungarian, Lithuanian, Slovak, and Turkish. We would welcome the formation of LSCs to further this work and lead efforts to deploy UBL in these locales. UBL contributors must be members of the OASIS UBL TC, though active participation in the TC is not a requirement for participation in UBL subcomittees. OASIS memberships for individuals cost USD 300 per year, and there are also group rates for organizations; for more information, see http://www.oasis-open.org/join/ If you are interested in joining the premier open standards effort for the development of electronic business documents, contact the chair: Jon Bosak, Distinguished Engineer, Corporate Standards Office of Global Government Strategy, Sun Microsystems Chair, OASIS Universal Business Language (UBL) TC jon.bosak@sun.com
