Subject: Open invitation to contribute to the OASIS UBL 2.1 International Data Dictionary (IDD)

Fellow UBL Dev list members,

An important project in each of OASIS UBL 1.0 and 2.0 was the creation of the OASIS UBL International Data Dictionary (IDD). The IDD provides to readers of languages other than English a culturally-sensitive translation of the semantics of OASIS UBL business documents and objects.

The UBL 2.1 IDD is an immense project: over 4,000 (four thousand) definitions need to be translated. The work from the UBL 1.0 IDD and UBL 2.0 IDD has been seeded in the first working draft of the UBL 2.1 IDD. So for some languages there are already some definitions, though even these need to be reviewed because UBL 2.1 revised some of the definitions from earlier specifications.

In the spirit of all OASIS work being publicly viewable, anyone can track the development progress of the IDD found at this Google Drive directory:

https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B4X4evii3UjcV3JJclNfMVF2dVU&usp=sharing#list

When the work is complete each language IDD will be submitted to the UBL Technical Committee for finalizing and publishing. There is no need to wait for all of the languages to be finished before any given language can be finalized.

You are all invited to contribute to this important work. In the Google Drive directory you will find a document with instructions regarding how this is done. This document may be revised periodically as we find better ways of working in this large project.

Perhaps you have a need to learn more about UBL and you are looking for meaningful tasks for some summer students or interns your company is responsible for. Contributing to the IDD will simultaneously help your team better understand UBL while providing a community service to others.

Please consider joining OASIS and/or contributing to our work. It is exciting to see how UBL is gaining interest and traction around the world, and you have a chance to help direct and support the work.

Thank you for considering how you can help.

. . . . . . . . Ken (co-chair of the UBL Technical Committee)
