Subject: Re: 17 Pre-Award document types

What would be really helpful is having the workflow diagrams (preferably BPMN) for the business processes that are involved.

The Pre-award Subcommittee will be preparing this as part of the package sent to the TC to work on. I believe the swim-lane diagrams are the responsibility of other groups and we are providing the documents to be used.

This allows people to clearly see what the overall need is, if those align with their workflows, what omissions may be there.

Understood, though I don't ask subcommittees to echo details to UBL Dev, so folks need to follow the committee work. A benefit of OASIS membership is to be able to sign up to a committee or subcommittee and have the messages arrive as they are sent. Others can view the archives. If people can't make the deadline then they can identify omissions during the first public review since we are focusing right now on requirements.

The pre-award subcommittee mail list archive where we have been working on this is at:

  https://lists.oasis-open.org/archives/ubl-pre-award/

And then people can see the 17 documents in context and understand how the puzzle fits together.

Without that its a bit like me giving you a jigsaw in a box - but without the picture on the lid - and asking if there are any
missing pieces.

We are only gathering requirements before May 31 and then looking at them all. People can review the subcommittee meeting minutes, or they can just compare their needs to 2.1 and those needs can be analyzed with the others.

Per the governance document we ask those making suggestions to document their need, prototype their idea under the extension point in XSD (which may or may not be accepted verbatim) and provide test XML data against their XSD.

In recent months I've made some tools freely available for anyone to create validation artefacts from spreadsheets. The Pre-award SC is using them to prototype their XSDs by augmenting the model itself with suggestions ... users are welcome to do that as well. Instructions and links to the latest tools are found at:

BTW - link to the public comment @ OASIS would be handy too -

This has been on our committee home page since its inception:

  https://www.oasis-open.org/committees/ubl

... which points users with the "Send a Comment" lozenge button to:

  https://www.oasis-open.org/committees/comments/index.php?wg_abbrev=ubl

this is the first I'm hearing about any of this.

Our governance document dictates a 3-year development cycle which would have mandated work complete at the end of January.

The final date of May 31 was decided at the end of January, minuted here:

https://lists.oasis-open.org/archives/ubl/201601/msg00013.html

I suggest interested parties consider membership in OASIS and on UBL's TC and subcommittees. Many hands make light work. New ideas are always welcome to be considered. We need to know what people need from UBL.

. . . . . . . . Ken
