Subject: RE: [ubl-lcsc] draft Agenda for face to face
Tim and LCSC Team, Although I can't attend the meeting in Minneapolis, I am anticipating that Bill French (Liaison between UBL and EIDX) will be there and would be able to discuss the UDEF during the meeting. To provide additional insight into how the UDEF is being used within the Metadata Harmonization Project of the Aerospace Industry, I have attached a matrix (Excel file) that shows how concepts such as Enterprise Identification, Document Identification, Product Identification, and Asset Identification are being described in context through use of the UDEF naming convention and then aligned across the various standards. For example, the context drivers for the concept of Enterprise Identification include: the "role" of "Enterprise" plus the authority that "assigns" the unique "Identifier." Depending on the context of the application that either sends or receives the data, it is necessary to distinguish the role (e.g., buyer, design originator, manufacturer, payment remitter, payment receiver, shipment originator, shipment destination, etc.) of the Enterprise. In addition, it is necessary to capture the authority that assigns the Identifier in order to prevent identifier collisions (given that an authority insures collisions cannot happen within the domain they control). During yesterday's LCSC discussion, the team requested examples of codes and identifiers. I offer several identifier examples contained in the attached matrix. A small sample of the examples (in addition to those highlighted above) include -- product model identifier, product manufacturer sequential tracking identifier, product lot tracking identifier, automobile asset manufacturer assigned vehicle identifier, cash asset checking account identifier, etc. Regards!
